Senior Metallurgist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metallurgist to join their dynamic processing team in Edinburgh . This role is central to optimizing the recovery and quality of valuable minerals from raw ore. You will be responsible for the research, development, and implementation of innovative metallurgical processes, troubleshooting operational challenges, and ensuring efficient plant performance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced metallurgist to lead critical R&D initiatives and drive process improvements within a significant mining operation in Scotland, contributing to increased yield and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of mineral processing and extraction techniques.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale test work to evaluate new reagents, circuits, and process parameters.
• Analyze plant performance data to identify areas for improvement in recovery, grade, and cost efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex metallurgical issues and implement effective solutions.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, process flow diagrams, and recommendations for plant upgrades.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and environmental teams to ensure safe and sustainable processing.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in extractive metallurgy, preferably within base or precious metals.
• Strong knowledge of mineral processing unit operations (e.g., comminution, flotation, leaching, smelting).
• Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to conduct root cause analysis.
• Demonstrated experience in leading projects and mentoring junior staff.
