Senior Mine Planning Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and innovative Senior Mine Planning Engineer to join their team based near Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK . This role is central to the long-term success of their mining operations, involving the development and optimisation of mine plans to ensure safe, efficient, and economically viable extraction of resources. You will leverage advanced planning software and geological data to create integrated mine designs, production schedules, and strategic development plans. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mine planning for either underground or surface operations, a strong understanding of mining economics, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. This is a key position for an experienced professional looking to shape the future of a significant mining enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and update comprehensive short-term, medium-term, and long-term mine plans.
• Utilise advanced mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Whittle) to optimise mine design, scheduling, and costing.
• Conduct economic evaluations and feasibility studies for new mine developments and life-of-mine extensions.
• Collaborate closely with geological, operational, and engineering teams to ensure plans are technically sound and achievable.
• Provide technical guidance on mine layout, material handling, ventilation (for underground), and equipment selection.
• Ensure all mine plans comply with stringent safety, environmental, and regulatory standards specific to the mining sector .

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mine planning and design, with a strong portfolio of successful projects.
• Proficiency in leading mine planning software and associated geological modelling tools.
• Solid understanding of mining methods , equipment capabilities, and operational constraints.
• Experience with mine economics, financial modelling, and strategic planning is essential.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex plans clearly.
