Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist to lead critical research and development initiatives at their facility in Plymouth . This role involves designing, synthesizing, and characterizing novel pharmaceutical compounds with therapeutic potential. You will leverage your extensive expertise in medicinal chemistry to drive projects from discovery through to pre-clinical development, mentoring junior chemists and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Working in our state-of-the-art laboratories in Plymouth , you will be at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation, contributing to the development of next-generation medicines.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and synthesis of complex organic molecules for drug discovery programs.
• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for novel chemical entities, ensuring scalability and efficiency.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using advanced analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, Mass Spectrometry, HPLC).
• Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to junior research chemists.
• Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and other scientists to advance drug candidates.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral research experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Proven track record of successful drug discovery and development contributions.
• Expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry and structural elucidation.
• Strong publication record and excellent presentation skills.
