Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist to lead key synthesis and analytical projects within their research and development division in Bristol . This role involves the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel chemical entities with therapeutic potential, as well as optimizing existing synthetic routes for pharmaceutical intermediates and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). You will play a critical role in advancing drug discovery programs, collaborating closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and formulation scientists to bring new therapies from concept to clinical trials. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional synthetic organic chemistry skills and a strong understanding of pharmaceutical development processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute complex synthetic routes for novel small molecules and drug candidates.
• Perform rigorous characterization of synthesized compounds using techniques such as NMR, MS, IR, and HPLC.
• Optimize existing synthetic processes for yield, purity, and scalability, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for raw materials, intermediates, and APIs.
• Lead process development activities for APIs, ensuring compliance with GMP requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing expertise in synthetic and analytical chemistry to project teams.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry, with a focus on drug discovery and development.
• Extensive experience with modern synthetic techniques and purification methods.
• Proficiency in advanced analytical techniques for compound characterization.
• Knowledge of GMP principles and experience in process development for APIs.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and a track record of scientific innovation.
