Senior Process Chemist - Pharmaceutical Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Process Chemist to join their pharmaceutical development team in Glasgow . This role is crucial for optimizing and scaling up chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will be responsible for developing robust, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing processes that meet stringent regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of synthetic organic chemistry, process development principles, and scale-up challenges, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up synthetic routes for APIs and key intermediates.
• Conduct process hazard analyses and implement appropriate safety measures for chemical operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during process development and manufacturing campaigns.
• Perform route scouting and identify the most efficient and economical synthesis pathways.
• Characterize new compounds and impurities using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, and NMR.
• Write detailed process descriptions, batch records, and technical reports for regulatory submissions.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field, with a strong emphasis on synthetic chemistry.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development and scale-up.
• In-depth knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry , reaction mechanisms, and purification techniques.
• Experience with analytical techniques for characterizing chemical compounds and monitoring reactions.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent attention to detail.
