Senior Research Chemist - Organic Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Chemist with expertise in Organic Synthesis to join their innovative R&D department in Glasgow . This role is central to the design and execution of complex synthetic routes for novel chemical entities with potential therapeutic applications. You will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory, contributing to critical drug discovery projects and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists. Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis routes for novel and complex target molecules.
• Optimize synthetic procedures to improve yield, purity, and scalability.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using a range of analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, etc.).
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and develop creative solutions to overcome them.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists and other research scientists to advance drug discovery programs.
• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare research reports.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, with a strong focus on methodology development and complex molecule synthesis.
• Proficiency in modern synthetic techniques and a broad knowledge of reaction mechanisms.
• Experience with analytical techniques for compound characterization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
• Strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail.
