Senior Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Process Chemist to join their manufacturing and development team in Edinburgh . This role is central to optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the efficient and safe production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will work collaboratively with R&D chemists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure robust, reproducible, and cost-effective synthesis routes suitable for commercialization. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis routes for scale-up, focusing on safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement measures to mitigate risks.
• Troubleshoot issues encountered during process development and manufacturing.
• Characterize intermediates and final products using analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, NMR, and MS.
• Transfer processes from laboratory scale to pilot plant and ultimately to commercial manufacturing.
• Write clear and comprehensive process descriptions, batch records, and technical reports.

Requirements

• MSc or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process chemistry, preferably within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of synthetic organic chemistry and reaction kinetics.
• Experience with process safety evaluation and scale-up principles.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for characterization and purity assessment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
