About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Chemist to lead their chemical development and optimisation efforts in Reading . This role is critical for advancing the company's product pipeline through innovative synthesis and process improvement. You will oversee laboratory-scale development, pilot plant trials, and the scale-up of chemical processes, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and reproducible. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry and process chemistry, with a passion for solving complex chemical challenges and a desire to mentor junior team members. This position offers significant autonomy and the chance to impact product development from early stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and optimisation of synthetic routes and chemical processes for new and existing products.
- Design and execute laboratory experiments to explore reaction conditions, catalyst screening, and purification methods.
- Develop robust and scalable processes suitable for pilot plant and commercial manufacturing.
- Troubleshoot and resolve chemical process issues encountered during development and scale-up.
- Conduct process safety assessments and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Mentor and guide junior chemists and technicians, fostering a collaborative research environment.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Organic Chemistry or Process Chemistry.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial experience in process development and scale-up of chemical syntheses.
- Extensive knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanisms, and analytical techniques (NMR, HPLC, GC-MS).
- Experience with process safety principles and hazard evaluation.
- Proven ability to manage projects, interpret data, and present findings clearly.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the chemical industry is a plus.
