Senior Process Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Process Design Engineer to join their engineering hub in Derby . This role is instrumental in the conceptualization, development, and detailed design of process systems for major capital projects. You will lead the design process, ensuring that solutions are safe, efficient, cost-effective, and meet all project specifications and regulatory requirements. This position offers a stimulating hybrid work model, enabling collaboration within the office while also providing flexibility for remote work. You will be a key contributor to innovative project solutions and mentorship of junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of process design packages, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
• Perform process simulations and calculations, including mass and energy balances, hydraulic analysis, and equipment sizing.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety measures in designs.
• Develop and manage scope, schedule, and budget for process design activities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, procurement, and construction personnel.
• Mentor and guide junior process engineers, providing technical oversight and development support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process design engineering within the Oil & Gas, chemical, or related process industries.
• Proven experience in leading process design for capital projects from concept to execution.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II) and P&ID development tools.
• Strong understanding of process safety management principles and risk assessment techniques.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment.
