Senior Process Development Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Development Engineer to join their expanding team in Southampton . This role is integral to the innovation pipeline, focusing on developing and refining chemical processes from laboratory scale through to commercial production. You will leverage your deep technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges in process chemistry and engineering. The position operates on a hybrid model, combining essential site-based work with the flexibility of remote engagement, fostering a collaborative and productive atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of new chemical processes, focusing on scalability, safety, and economic viability.
• Design and execute pilot plant trials, analyze results, and provide recommendations for process optimization.
• Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with research, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
• Conduct thorough process hazard assessments (PHA) and implement robust safety protocols.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related scientific field.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in process development, scale-up, and troubleshooting in the chemical industry.
• Expertise in process design, modeling, and simulation software.
• Strong understanding of reaction kinetics , thermodynamics, and separation technologies.
• Proven track record of successfully bringing new chemical processes to production.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a hybrid setting.
