Senior Process Engineer - Pharmaceutical Intermediates

About the Role

Our client, a leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical intermediates, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to enhance their production capabilities in Edinburgh . This role is crucial for optimizing and troubleshooting complex chemical synthesis and purification processes, ensuring high yields, purity, and compliance with strict pharmaceutical standards. You will work in a highly regulated environment, contributing to the development and continuous improvement of processes that support life-saving medications, collaborating with R&D, QA/QC, and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead process optimization initiatives to improve yield, reduce cycle times, and minimize waste in the production of pharmaceutical intermediates.
• Develop and validate new process improvements and scale-up processes from lab to pilot and commercial scale.
• Conduct detailed technical investigations into process deviations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs).
• Ensure all processes and equipment adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and manufacturing personnel.
• Author and review critical process documentation, including batch records, SOPs, and validation protocols.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process engineering within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Proven expertise in process development, scale-up, and validation within a GMP environment.
• Strong understanding of organic synthesis, purification techniques, and analytical methods relevant to pharmaceutical intermediates.
• Experience with process safety assessments and regulatory submissions.
• Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills for the Edinburgh facility.
