Senior Process Safety Engineer - Energy Industry

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their team in Edinburgh , playing a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of safety across their diverse energy operations. You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards to prevent incidents and ensure the well-being of personnel and the environment. This position is key to upholding operational integrity and compliance within the highly regulated Scottish energy sector . Your expertise will directly contribute to safe and sustainable energy production and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) , including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies for energy facilities.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and programs.
• Interpret and apply relevant safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices (e.g., Seveso Directive).
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Review engineering designs and operational procedures for safety implications, providing recommendations for risk reduction.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to relevant personnel across the organization.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with a strong focus on safety.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering , with significant exposure to the energy industry .
• In-depth knowledge and practical experience with various PHA methodologies.
• Familiarity with PSM elements and regulatory requirements in the UK and Europe.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to critically assess complex technical information.
• Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
