Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols and risk management within their operational facilities in Sunderland . This vital role involves ensuring the integrity and safety of all process systems, conducting rigorous risk assessments, and implementing robust safety management systems. You will play a crucial part in fostering a strong safety culture, driving continuous improvement in process safety performance, and ensuring compliance with all relevant industry regulations and standards. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to maintaining operational excellence and protecting personnel, assets, and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and HAZID studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Perform risk assessments and safety reviews for new projects and modifications to existing facilities.
• Investigate process safety incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, standards (e.g., Seveso III, COMAH), and company policies.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety matters to engineering and operational teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical or oil and gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles, methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in conducting various types of hazard and risk assessments.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate technical findings into practical safety solutions.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, essential for conveying critical safety information in Sunderland .
