Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their operations based in Sunderland . This is a crucial on-site role focused on maintaining and enhancing the safety of our industrial processes within the oil and gas sector. You will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing process-related hazards to prevent major accidents. The role requires a thorough understanding of process safety management systems, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and management teams to ensure a robust safety culture is maintained and continuously improved.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead Hazard and Operability studies (HAZOP) and other risk assessment techniques.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Perform Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure recommendations are implemented effectively.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Provide technical guidance and training on process safety principles to staff.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably within the chemical or oil and gas industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, including PHA, MOC, PSSR, and mechanical integrity.
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies and consequence modeling.
• Strong understanding of relevant legislation and industry codes (e.g., COMAH).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering field. Professional certification is a plus.
