About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety expertise in Edinburgh . This critical role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of process safety across all operations, mitigating risks, and fostering a strong safety culture. You will lead investigations, conduct hazard analyses, and develop robust safety management systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to safety, extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements, and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels to prioritize safety in every aspect of their work. This position is key to maintaining operational integrity and protecting personnel and the environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance and training on process safety principles to engineering and operational teams.
- Review designs for new and modified processes to ensure safety integrity is built-in from the outset.
Requirements
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience (8+ years) in process safety engineering, preferably in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of PSM standards (e.g., OSHA PSM, COMAH).
- Proficiency in conducting various types of PHAs and risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
