Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Senior Process Safety Engineer to bolster their safety assurance efforts, operating remotely with support requirements in Sunderland . This vital role ensures the highest standards of process safety across all operations, mitigating risks and safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment. You will be at the forefront of developing and implementing comprehensive safety management systems, contributing significantly to a strong safety culture. This position is ideal for an expert with a deep understanding of chemical process risks and a passion for maintaining operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct comprehensive Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) , including HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Provide expert advice and training on process safety principles and practices to engineering and operational teams.
• Review designs for new installations and modifications to ensure safety is integrated from the outset.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical, oil & gas, or manufacturing sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, hazard identification techniques, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate complex safety requirements into actionable plans.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills, comfortable working independently.
