Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their established team in Sunderland . This role is integral to ensuring the highest standards of safety across our operations within the demanding energy sector . Operating under a hybrid model, you will have the opportunity to influence safety culture through both on-site assessments and remote analysis. The focus of this position is on developing, implementing, and maintaining robust process safety management systems to prevent major accidents. Your expertise will be vital in conducting hazard identification, risk assessments, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and other process hazard analyses (PHAs).
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections, identifying potential risks and non-compliance issues.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant process safety regulations and industry best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and training on process safety principles to engineers and operational staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering , preferably within the oil, gas, or chemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, including PHA, MOC, PSSR, and incident investigation.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and LOPA.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret technical safety data effectively.
