Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and diligent Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their operational safety team based in Sunderland . This critical role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of process safety are maintained across all operational facilities, focusing on hazard identification, risk assessment, and the implementation of robust safety management systems. You will be instrumental in fostering a strong safety culture, minimizing operational risks, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements within the energy industry . This is a key on-site position that requires a hands-on approach and a deep commitment to operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies, LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis), and other process hazard analyses.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
• Oversee the lifecycle management of safety-critical equipment and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
• Provide expert advice and technical guidance on process safety matters to project and operational teams.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas or chemical processing sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of HAZOP , LOPA, risk assessment methodologies, and safety system design.
• Familiarity with relevant safety standards such as IEC 61508/61511 and industry best practices.
• Strong understanding of hazardous area classifications and equipment selection.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
