Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to strengthen their safety management capabilities in Sunderland . This pivotal role ensures that all chemical processes and operations meet the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The position offers a hybrid working model , allowing for a blend of on-site collaboration and remote work flexibility. You will be a key advisor, driving safety culture and implementing robust safety protocols across multiple sites. Your expertise will be crucial in safeguarding personnel, assets, and the environment, contributing significantly to the company's commitment to operational integrity and responsible manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and risk assessments.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant UK and international safety regulations and standards.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide expert technical advice and training on process safety to engineering and operational teams.
• Review engineering designs and modifications for safety implications before implementation.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in process safety engineering within the chemical or process industries.
• In-depth knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) standards and methodologies.
• Proven experience in leading and facilitating PHAs and risk assessments.
• Excellent understanding of safety regulations and best practices.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, essential for a hybrid role .
