Senior Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their dedicated team, operating in a flexible, predominantly remote capacity with occasional site visits. This pivotal role will ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical processes and operations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing robust process safety management systems, including hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation. This is a critical position for ensuring operational integrity and compliance, offering a significant opportunity to influence safety culture and practice from Brighton or your remote location.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct comprehensive process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to engineering and operational personnel.
• Provide expert advice on process safety aspects for new projects and modifications.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering within the chemical or process industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies and PSM principles (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, essential for liaising with various stakeholders in a remote or site setting.
