Senior Research Chemist - Organic Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated and experienced Senior Research Chemist with expertise in organic synthesis to join their R&D team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is instrumental in the discovery and development of novel chemical compounds for a variety of applications. You will lead synthetic projects, develop innovative reaction pathways, and contribute to the scale-up of promising molecules. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical foundation in organic chemistry coupled with significant hands-on laboratory experience, driving critical advancements within the company's research pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute multi-step synthetic routes for complex organic molecules, targeting specific structural and purity requirements.
• Optimize existing synthetic procedures to improve yield, reduce costs, and enhance sustainability.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using a range of analytical techniques, including NMR, Mass Spectrometry, and HPLC.
• Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and identify root causes of unexpected reaction outcomes.
• Collaborate with analytical chemists and process engineers to facilitate compound scale-up and characterization.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare comprehensive reports on research findings.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Proven expertise in a broad range of organic reactions and methodologies.
• Hands-on experience with modern spectroscopic and chromatographic analytical techniques.
• Ability to independently plan, execute, and interpret complex synthetic projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to experimental work.
