About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Chemist with expertise in Organic Synthesis to join their innovative R&D team in Plymouth . This role is central to the design and execution of complex synthetic routes for novel compounds, driving forward early-stage drug discovery programs. You will be responsible for tackling challenging synthetic problems, optimizing reaction conditions, and developing scalable processes for potential new therapeutics. Working in a hybrid capacity, you will contribute both in the laboratory and through remote analysis and reporting, collaborating closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to achieve project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel organic molecules using a wide range of synthetic methodologies.
- Develop and optimize synthetic routes, focusing on efficiency, scalability, and safety.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR) and chromatographic methods (HPLC, GC).
- Troubleshoot synthetic challenges and implement creative solutions to overcome obstacles.
- Collaborate with medicinal chemists to advance lead optimization programs.
- Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to scientific reports and publications.
Requirements
- PhD in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
- Demonstrated expertise in multi-step organic synthesis and reaction mechanism understanding.
- Proficiency with modern spectroscopic and analytical techniques for compound characterization.
- Experience with purification techniques such as chromatography.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent organizational skills for laboratory work and remote analysis.
