Senior Research Chemist - Organic Synthesis

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Research Chemist to join their dynamic R&D team in Portsmouth . This role will focus on designing and executing synthetic routes for novel organic compounds, contributing to the development of new products and technologies. You will be involved in challenging synthesis projects, problem-solving complex chemical challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring innovative ideas to fruition. The ideal candidate will have a passion for organic chemistry, a meticulous approach to experimentation, and a proven ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced research environment, driving forward critical development pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel organic molecules using a variety of synthetic methodologies and reaction conditions.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR) and chromatographic methods (HPLC, GC).
• Optimize reaction conditions to improve yield, purity, and efficiency, and develop robust synthetic procedures.
• Conduct literature searches and stay abreast of the latest advancements in organic synthesis and related fields.
• Collaborate with process chemists and engineers for the scale-up and transfer of synthetic routes.

Requirements

• A PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
• Strong proficiency in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques, including asymmetric synthesis, catalysis, and multi-step synthesis.
• Experience with purification techniques such as column chromatography, recrystallization, and distillation.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex spectroscopic data.
