Senior Research Engineer - Bioprocess Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Research Engineer to lead bioprocess development efforts within their Scientific Research & Development division located in Wolverhampton . This role is instrumental in scaling up novel bioprocesses from laboratory bench to pilot scale, ensuring efficient and robust production of biologics. You will apply your engineering expertise to optimize fermentation, downstream processing, and purification strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize microbial fermentation processes for the production of target molecules.
• Scale-up bioprocesses from laboratory to pilot plant scale, ensuring process robustness and reproducibility.
• Develop and validate downstream processing and purification strategies for biological products.
• Utilize process modeling and simulation tools to enhance understanding and optimization of bioprocesses.
• Troubleshoot process deviations and implement corrective actions to maintain process performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D scientists, manufacturing, and quality assurance.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in bioprocess development and scale-up, preferably within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Strong understanding of fermentation principles, downstream processing techniques, and analytical methods for biologics.
• Experience with process modeling software and statistical analysis tools.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers and scientists.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
