Senior Research Scientist - Bioinformatics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientist specializing in Bioinformatics to join their fully remote R&D team. This pivotal role involves leveraging advanced computational techniques to analyze complex biological datasets, driving critical insights for groundbreaking scientific discoveries. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing novel algorithms and pipelines to support drug discovery and development initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of biological systems and a passion for applying cutting-edge computational methods to solve challenging research problems within a collaborative, distributed environment, contributing significantly to the company's innovative research pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate bioinformatics pipelines for high-throughput genomic and proteomic data analysis.
• Perform in-depth statistical analysis and interpretation of large-scale biological datasets to identify key trends and biological insights.
• Collaborate remotely with biologists, chemists, and other scientists to define research questions and experimental designs.
• Develop and implement machine learning models for predictive analytics in drug discovery and target identification.
• Contribute to the writing of scientific publications, grant proposals, and internal reports.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to the overall scientific strategy of the R&D department.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioinformatics , Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in analyzing complex biological data using Python, R, or other relevant programming languages.
• Proficiency in using command-line interfaces and experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
• Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine learning algorithms, and biological pathways.
• Demonstrated experience with common bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, Ensembl, TCGA).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a remote team setting.
