About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Research Scientist specializing in Medicinal Chemistry to lead critical projects within their drug discovery unit located in Sheffield . This senior role involves the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecules to develop next-generation therapeutics. You will be at the forefront of innovation, applying cutting-edge synthetic techniques and a deep understanding of structure-activity relationships (SAR) to create drug candidates with improved efficacy and safety profiles. Key Responsibilities

• Lead medicinal chemistry efforts for assigned drug discovery projects.
• Design and synthesize complex organic molecules using modern synthetic methodologies.
• Conduct SAR studies and iteratively optimize lead compounds.
• Collaborate with biologists and pharmacologists to assess compound activity and selectivity.
• Develop strategic approaches for hit-to-lead and lead optimization campaigns.
• Mentor junior scientists and contribute to project planning and strategy.

Requirements

• PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
• 5-7 years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery, with a focus on medicinal chemistry.
• Proven ability to design and synthesize novel chemical entities targeting various disease areas.
• Strong expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and purification methods.
• Excellent understanding of DMPK, ADME, and general drug development principles.
• Demonstrated leadership potential and strong communication skills.
