Senior Scientist - Medicinal Chemistry

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry to join their thriving research and development team in Derby . You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, applying your expertise to identify and develop drug candidates with improved efficacy and safety profiles. Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel small molecules for drug discovery programs, applying principles of medicinal chemistry.
• Optimize lead compounds to improve potency, selectivity, pharmacokinetic properties, and safety profiles.
• Utilize structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis to guide synthetic efforts and explore chemical space.
• Characterize synthesized compounds using various analytical techniques, including NMR, MS, and HPLC.
• Collaborate closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and DMPK scientists to achieve project goals.
• Maintain meticulous laboratory records and contribute to scientific reports and publications.

Requirements

• PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medicinal chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
• Proven track record in the design and synthesis of biologically active small molecules.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery processes, SAR, and ADMET principles.
• Proficiency in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and analytical characterization methods.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a hybrid model in Derby .
