Senior Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Senior Scientist specializing in Structural Biology to join their innovative research and development team in Southampton . This role is integral to elucidating the molecular mechanisms of disease targets and guiding drug design efforts. You will be responsible for utilizing advanced structural biology techniques, including X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy, to determine high-resolution structures of key biological macromolecules. Working collaboratively with medicinal chemists and biologists, you will play a critical role in advancing drug discovery programs from target identification through to lead optimization, contributing to the development of novel therapeutics within a cutting-edge research environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead projects focused on determining the 3D structures of therapeutic targets using X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM.
• Purify and characterize protein targets and complexes to facilitate structural studies.
• Analyze and interpret structural data to gain mechanistic insights and guide drug design.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to provide structure-based drug design strategies.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in structural biology techniques and apply them to research challenges.

Requirements

• PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Structural Biology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in structural biology , with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated expertise in protein expression, purification, and crystallization or cryo-EM sample preparation and data collection.
• Proficiency in structure determination and refinement software.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and experience working in a hybrid , collaborative research setting in Southampton .
