Senior Security Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Security Engineer to join their dedicated security team based in Reading . You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining security technologies that protect the organisation's systems and data from cyber threats. This hands-on role requires a deep technical understanding of security infrastructure, a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks, and the ability to work effectively within a collaborative IT environment. You will play a vital role in strengthening the company's security posture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security.
• Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to identify and address security weaknesses.
• Develop and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Respond to and investigate security incidents, performing root cause analysis.
• Implement and manage security monitoring tools and systems, including SIEM.
• Provide technical guidance and support to IT staff on security-related matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in security engineering or a similar technical security role.
• Proficiency with a range of security technologies and protocols.
• Strong understanding of network security principles and best practices.
• Experience with scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus.
