Job Description
AG Products Senior Software, Cloud & Modelling Engineer Location: Goostrey, Cheshire Employment: Full-time, Permanent Working arrangement: On-site at our engineering premises AG Products is a family-run British agricultural machinery manufacturer with a strong focus on innovation, engineering and product development. Our engineering and R&D activities include autonomous machinery, robotics, advanced sensing, engineering simulation and the development of connected systems capable of collecting, processing and presenting operational data. We are looking for an experienced Senior Software, Cloud & Modelling Engineer to take technical ownership of key software systems and support the next generation of AG Products technology. This is a broad, hands-on senior engineering position combining software development, cloud infrastructure, engineering modelling and applied research and development. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining and improving the software architecture and infrastructure supporting our machinery, robotic platforms and R&D projects. The role requires someone who can work independently, solve complex technical problems and take responsibility for complete software solutions, from initial concept through development, testing, deployment and ongoing support. Working closely with our mechanical, electronics, embedded systems and robotics engineers, the successful candidate will help turn engineering concepts into practical, reliable and commercially viable systems. Software Development & Architecture
- Design, develop and maintain software for agricultural machinery and autonomous systems.
- Build backend services, APIs, databases and user-facing applications.
- Maintain reliable, scalable software architecture and integrate machinery, embedded controllers and applications.
- Develop tools to collect, process and present machine and sensor data.
- Maintain clear documentation, version control and sound development practices. Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps
- Take hands-on ownership of cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
- Configure and troubleshoot Linux systems, cloud services and Docker deployments.
- Maintain deployment, monitoring, backup and recovery processes.
- Manage networking, connectivity, access and security.
- Prepare reliable infrastructure for future commercial deployment. Engineering Data, Simulation & Computational Modelling
- Develop simulation, optimisation, computational modelling and Digital Twin tools for autonomous machinery.
- Model machine performance, operating sequences, capacity and efficiency.
- Analyse machine, sensor and operational data and test engineering concepts before physical implementation.
- Work with robotics and mechanical engineers to validate models against real machines. Research & Development
- Investigate technologies and develop prototype software for agricultural machinery and autonomous systems.
- Collaborate with internal engineers, universities and external research partners.
- Turn research into practical applications and support testing, troubleshooting and validation. Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial or industrial software engineering experience, with advanced Python skills.
- Experience delivering complete applications, including backend services, APIs and databases.
- Hands-on AWS cloud infrastructure experience.
- Strong Linux, Docker, deployment, networking and security skills.
- Genuine experience developing engineering modelling, simulation, optimisation or analytical applications, with software applied to physical machinery, robotics, industrial, scientific or similarly complex real-world systems.
- Ability to solve technical problems independently and communicate clearly across engineering disciplines. Desirable Experience
- React, FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
- CI/CD, monitoring, automation and deployment tooling.
- Digital Twins, scientific computing, numerical modelling or optimisation.
- Robotics, industrial automation or connected machinery.
- CAN/CANopen, machine-data interfaces and sensor-data visualisation.
- Computer vision or AI and machine-learning integration.
- Agricultural machinery, off-highway vehicles or industrial equipment.
- Collaborative R&D with universities or research organisations. Working Environment The position is based at our engineering premises in Goostrey, Cheshire. The successful candidate will work closely with our engineering team and have opportunities to engage directly with machinery, prototypes and physical testing.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work on innovative, real-world engineering projects.
- Significant technical responsibility and ownership.
- Involvement in autonomous robotics, advanced sensing and next-generation agricultural machinery.
- Close collaboration with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- The opportunity to influence software architecture and future product development.
- A permanent position within an established, family-run British manufacturing business. The Person We are particularly interested in someone who enjoys solving practical engineering problems and is comfortable working across software development, infrastructure and engineering modelling. The ideal candidate will combine strong software engineering experience with curiosity, sound technical judgement and a willingness to understand how software interacts with physical machinery. They should be comfortable being given an engineering problem where the solution is not yet known, investigating the options and developing a practical solution rather than simply implementing a predefined software specification. This is not simply a programming position. We need someone capable of taking responsibility for important software systems, supporting complex R&D projects and helping AG Products develop robust technology for future commercial products. Specialist machine-learning algorithm development, robotics navigation, embedded machine controls and detailed electronics design are covered by other engineering positions. Experience in these areas would be valuable, but is not the primary purpose of this role
