About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned and technically adept Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join their growing team in Plymouth . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend systems that power our core applications and services. This role requires a deep understanding of software architecture, database technologies, and best practices for building robust, reliable software. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including frontend engineers, product managers, and QA testers, to deliver high-quality solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services and APIs using languages like Python, Java, or Node.js.
- Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for speed and efficiency.
- Write clean, well-tested, and maintainable code, participating actively in code reviews.
- Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
- Manage and optimize database schemas and performance for relational and non-relational databases.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and the adoption of new technologies and best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go, C#) and associated frameworks.
- Expertise in designing and working with RESTful APIs.
- Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and ORMs.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
