About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer with a focus on backend development to join their established team in Cardiff . You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-performance backend systems that power our client's core services. This role requires a deep understanding of software architecture, database design, and API development, as well as a commitment to writing clean, efficient, and well-tested code.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code using Java or Python and associated frameworks.
Develop robust APIs and microservices to support our growing platform and external integrations.
Optimize application for maximum speed, scalability, and reliability across diverse network conditions.
Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality features.
Write comprehensive unit, integration, and performance tests to ensure the stability of the codebase.
Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and adhering to coding standards.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5+ years of professional experience in backend software development .
Strong proficiency in Java or Python and experience with relevant frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot, Django).
Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and experience with ORM tools.
Experience with message queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ) and RESTful API design.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and contribute to technical discussions.
