About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Engineer to join their team in Bristol , focusing on power system infrastructure critical to the energy grid . This role demands extensive expertise in the design, specification, and commissioning of high-voltage substations. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of power transmission and distribution networks, working on projects that are vital for national energy security. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of power system engineering principles, substation equipment, protection systems, and project execution within the utilities sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design and engineering of high-voltage substations (up to 400kV), including single-line diagrams, busbar arrangements, and earthing systems.
- Specify and select key substation equipment such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection relays.
- Develop protection schemes and logic diagrams for substation protection and control systems.
- Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of substation projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
- Perform site surveys, technical reviews, and risk assessments for substation upgrades and new builds.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to junior engineers and design teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in substation engineering, with a strong focus on the power and energy industry .
- In-depth knowledge of substation equipment, protection relays, and control systems.
- Proficiency in substation design software and power system analysis tools (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP).
- Experience with grid codes and regulatory requirements for transmission and distribution networks.
- Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to lead complex engineering initiatives.
