Senior Subsurface Geologist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Subsurface Geologist to join their exploration and appraisal team in Sheffield, South Yorkshire . This role is critical for understanding the subsurface geology and identifying potential hydrocarbon resources. You will be responsible for integrating and interpreting a wide range of geological and geophysical data to build robust subsurface models and assess prospectivity. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned geologist to contribute to significant exploration projects, working within a collaborative environment and leveraging advanced technologies to drive strategic decision-making in a key oil and gas hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic data, well logs, core data, and other geological information to define subsurface structures and stratigraphy.
• Develop and refine 3D geological models and maps for exploration and development assets.
• Conduct detailed prospectivity analysis and volumetric assessments, including risk and uncertainty evaluations.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers to ensure integrated subsurface interpretations.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for exploration and appraisal activities.
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to the development of best practices within the geoscience team.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in subsurface geology , with a focus on exploration and appraisal.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix).
• Strong understanding of sedimentary basin analysis and hydrocarbon systems.
• Experience with prospect risking and uncertainty quantification methodologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
