Senior Surveyor/ Associate Director

- Full time
Job Description
Higher-risk buildings. Principal Designer duties. The Building Safety Act in practice – and a bonus that rewards every pound you bill.
A well-established and growing multi-disciplinary practice of Chartered Surveyors, Project Managers and Cost Consultants in the City of London is expanding its Building Consultancy team, alongside a recently launched Building Safety & Compliance service that has taken off. They need a senior MRICS Building Surveyor who can run residential, mixed-use and higher-risk building instructions with minimal oversight – and grow the client base that comes with them.
Why This Role?
- The sharp end of building safety – Higher-Risk Building and Principal Designer work, not box-ticking
- Earn what you bill – one of the industry’s most competitive, billing-linked bonus schemes
- Real progression – a clear promotion framework, with former graduates now at board level
- Directors on every project – high-calibre work in a close-knit team with excellent retention
- Hybrid working – up to two days a week from home once you’ve passed probation
What You’Ll Be Doing
- Running your own instructions end to end – from brief and fee proposal through delivery, variations and billing
- Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 and under the Building Regulations 2010
- Advising clients on dutyholder responsibilities and reviewing existing buildings and proposed works
- Preparing and coordinating Higher-Risk Building information and supporting submissions to statutory bodies
- Delivering the full building surveying service, with a strong project management and contract administration focus
- Winning repeat and new business, and cross-selling the wider practice’s services
- Developing junior surveyors – with direct line management at Associate Director level
Where
- Central London (City) office – most projects across Greater London, occasional travel in the South of England
What You’Ll Bring
- MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor – ideally five or more years’ post-qualification experience
- Private-sector residential and mixed-use (commercial and retail) experience, including Higher-Risk Buildings
- In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, the Building Regulations 2010 and the Higher-Risk Buildings Procedures Regulations 2023
- A clear grasp of the distinct Principal Designer duties under CDM and under the Building Regulations
- A track record of generating your own work and client relationships – for Associate Director, an established client following you can bring
- Clear, robust reports and fee proposals; confident chairing meetings; at home with M365 and common data environments
- Public-sector contacts are a bonus, supporting the practice’s growth into that market
Senior Surveyor Or Associate Director?
Level depends on experience. Senior Surveyors own their workload and grow client relationships; Associate Directors lead complex instructions through others, bring a strong client following and help grow the team.
The Package
- Competitive salary, reflecting Senior Surveyor or Associate Director level
- Billing-linked bonus – earn as much as you bill
- New-business rewards • Hybrid working (up to two days from home)
- Group health insurance, season ticket loan, volunteering days
- RICS membership and training paid • A clear route to Director and beyond
