Senior Systems Administrator

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Systems Administrator to join their IT operations team in Portsmouth . This role is critical for maintaining the health, performance, and security of the company's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and storage systems. You will be responsible for system design, implementation, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal uptime and user support. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Windows and Linux environments, a strong understanding of network protocols, and a commitment to providing excellent technical support. Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems (Windows Server, Linux).
• Manage and monitor network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
• Implement and enforce security policies, conduct regular security audits, and respond to security incidents.
• Perform regular system backups and disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end-users and system-related issues.
• Automate routine system administration tasks using scripting languages.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or similar IT role.
• Proficiency in Windows Server administration and Active Directory management.
• Experience with Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS).
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and network security principles.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and backup solutions.
