Senior Technical Artist

About the Role

Our client, a prominent entertainment studio located in Cardiff , is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Artist to bridge the gap between art and engineering. You will be responsible for developing and optimizing art pipelines, tools, and workflows to empower the art team and enhance the visual fidelity of their projects. This role is crucial for ensuring efficient asset creation, performance optimization, and the seamless integration of art assets into game engines and other interactive platforms. You'll work closely with both artists and programmers, solving complex technical challenges to bring stunning visuals to life.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and improve art creation tools and pipelines using scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL).
• Optimize art assets for real-time performance across various platforms, ensuring high visual quality and smooth frame rates.
• Collaborate with artists to troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions for asset integration and engine implementation.
• Work with engineers to define and implement new engine features relevant to the art pipeline.
• Create and maintain technical art documentation, including style guides and best practices for asset creation.
• Research and implement new technologies and techniques to enhance artistic capabilities and production efficiency.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in the gaming or interactive entertainment industry.
• Strong proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, and shading techniques.
• Expertise in scripting languages such as Python, MEL, or C# for tool development.
• In-depth knowledge of game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, including their asset pipelines and performance profiling tools.
• Excellent understanding of rendering techniques, shaders, and material creation.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams in Cardiff .
