About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Underground Mine Engineer to join their prestigious operation in Edinburgh . This role is responsible for the planning, design, and execution of safe and efficient underground mining operations, ensuring optimal resource extraction and adherence to the highest safety standards. You will work closely with the mining team, geologists, and safety personnel to develop robust mining plans, manage operational challenges, and drive continuous improvement in underground extraction methods. This is a critical position for an experienced engineer looking to lead and innovate within a key mining hub.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement detailed underground mine designs and production plans, including stope layouts, access routes, and ventilation systems.
- Oversee the execution of underground mining activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, identify potential risks, and provide technical support to the mining crew.
- Manage mining equipment selection, utilization, and maintenance schedules for underground operations.
- Ensure strict compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations governing underground mining.
- Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to ensure the stability and safety of underground excavations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, with a specialization in underground mining.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in underground mine planning and operations.
- Proven expertise in various underground mining methods (e.g., cut-and-fill, sub-level stoping).
- Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac) and CAD applications.
- Strong understanding of ground control, ventilation, and mine services design.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills, with a commitment to safety excellence.
