Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client is looking for an experienced and visionary Senior Urban Designer to join their multidisciplinary team in Reading . This role is central to shaping the future of urban environments, focusing on the design of sustainable, vibrant, and cohesive masterplans and public spaces. You will lead design development, engage with stakeholders, and contribute to strategic planning initiatives, working on projects that have a significant impact on communities. This hybrid role allows for a blend of collaborative office-based work and flexible remote working, providing an ideal balance for strategic leadership and project execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of masterplans, urban regeneration schemes, and public realm strategies.
• Prepare high-quality design documentation, including concept plans, design guidelines, and visualisations.
• Conduct site analysis, context studies, and feasibility assessments for urban development projects.
• Engage with clients, local authorities, community groups, and other stakeholders to build consensus and support for design proposals.
• Ensure design proposals align with sustainability principles, local planning policies, and client objectives.
• Mentor junior urban designers and contribute to the development of the team's design capabilities.

Requirements

• Professional qualification in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
• Significant experience in urban design practice, with a portfolio demonstrating expertise in masterplanning and public realm design.
• Proficiency in relevant design software, including GIS, CAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and preferably BIM or visualisation tools.
• Strong understanding of urban planning policy, development frameworks, and sustainability principles.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to lead design processes and manage project teams effectively, working effectively in a hybrid model.
