Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client, a respected multi-disciplinary design consultancy located in Reading , Berkshire, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Urban Designer to contribute to the planning and design of significant urban development projects. This role is critical in shaping sustainable, liveable, and vibrant communities by integrating architectural, landscape, and transport considerations. You will lead design development, engage with stakeholders, and translate strategic visions into tangible urban environments. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the built environment and work on impactful projects within the Thames Valley region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and planning of urban regeneration schemes, masterplans, and development frameworks.
• Develop high-quality visualisations, concept designs, and design guidelines for urban projects.
• Coordinate with architects, landscape architects, engineers, and planning authorities.
• Engage with community groups, developers, and local government to facilitate consensus and support for design proposals.
• Undertake site analysis and feasibility studies for complex urban development sites.
• Ensure designs respond to environmental, social, and economic sustainability principles.

Requirements

• A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline, with a postgraduate qualification in Urban Design preferred.
• Substantial experience in urban design practice, with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
• Proficiency in urban design software such as AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and GIS.
• Strong understanding of planning policy, design theory, and sustainable development principles.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to lead and mentor junior team members.
