Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and creative Senior Urban Designer to join their influential practice in Edinburgh . This role is focused on shaping the future of urban environments, contributing to the planning and design of sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive communities across Scotland. You will play a key part in developing masterplans, design frameworks, and public realm strategies, collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of urban design strategies, masterplans, and design codes for complex development projects.
• Conduct site analyses, context studies, and feasibility assessments to inform design proposals.
• Engage with community groups, local authorities, and developers to build consensus and facilitate the design process.
• Produce high-quality visualisations, drawings, and reports to effectively communicate design concepts.
• Advise on planning policy, design review, and the integration of sustainable urban development principles.
• Mentor junior members of the urban design team and contribute to the practice's design ethos.

Requirements

• A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Planning, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in urban design or related fields.
• Proven experience in leading complex urban design projects, preferably within Scotland.
• Strong proficiency in CAD software, GIS, and visualization tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp).
• In-depth understanding of urban planning principles , policy, and development processes.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
