Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Urban Designer to lead transformative placemaking projects. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to shape cityscapes and communities from anywhere in the UK. You will be responsible for developing innovative masterplans, strategic design frameworks, and public realm strategies that foster vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive urban environments. We are looking for a strategic thinker with a proven ability to articulate design vision and engage diverse stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and lead the creation of comprehensive urban masterplans and design frameworks for complex sites.
• Analyze urban contexts, identify opportunities, and formulate strategic design interventions.
• Engage with public bodies, community groups, developers, and other stakeholders to build consensus and support for design proposals.
• Produce high-quality visual and written material to communicate design concepts and strategies effectively.
• Advise on policy, planning applications, and development proposals to ensure high-quality urban design outcomes.
• Lead and mentor junior urban designers and contribute to the strategic direction of the urban design team.

Requirements

• A degree in Urban Design, Architecture, Planning, or a related discipline, with a strong portfolio of urban design projects.
• Significant professional experience in urban design and masterplanning.
• Deep understanding of urban design principles, spatial planning, and the social, economic, and environmental factors influencing urban development.
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite) and GIS tools.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, tailored for remote engagement.
• Experience in public consultation and stakeholder management.
