Senior Urban Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Urban Designer to lead strategic urban development and regeneration projects in the Wolverhampton area. This role involves shaping the future of urban environments through innovative design, policy development, and stakeholder engagement. You will be responsible for developing masterplans, design frameworks, and detailed design guidance that promote sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive communities. This hybrid position combines essential site visits and collaborative office work with the flexibility of remote working, offering a dynamic opportunity to influence urban landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the creation and delivery of high-quality urban design strategies, masterplans, and design codes.
• Conduct site analyses, context studies, and feasibility assessments for new development proposals.
• Collaborate with local authorities, developers, communities, and consultants to foster consensus and support for design proposals.
• Prepare compelling design documentation, including visualisations, reports, and presentations for public consultations and planning authorities.
• Advise on urban design policy and best practices, contributing to the strategic vision for urban regeneration.
• Mentor and guide junior urban designers and planning professionals within the team.

Requirements

• A postgraduate qualification in Urban Design, Urban Planning, or Architecture.
• Significant professional experience (8+ years) in urban design, with a portfolio demonstrating large-scale project leadership.
• Expertise in urban design software, GIS, and graphic presentation tools.
• A strong understanding of urban planning legislation, development frameworks, and sustainable design principles.
• Exceptional communication, negotiation, and public engagement skills.
