Work Model: Glasgow / Hybrid as required

About the Role

Are you an experienced Software Engineer with strong Java + Python skills and hands‑on experience building and supporting distributed applications?

We’re looking for a Senior Java/Python Developer to join a technically challenging environment focused on cloud-native applications, microservices, containers and modern DevOps practices.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Develop and maintain applications using Java and Python
• Design and work with REST APIs and microservices
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues across distributed systems
• Work with Docker, Podman and Kubernetes
• Support applications running on Virtual Machine (VM) environments
• Work with PostgreSQL and other relational databases
• Apply networking and security fundamentals to application and infrastructure solutions
• Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform
• Automate and manage environments using Ansible
• Work with GitOps and CI/CD practices
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps and infrastructure teams
• Investigate complex technical issues and support production environments

What We’re Looking For

• 7-8+ years of software engineering/development experience
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices
• Strong experience with REST APIs
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and/or Podman
• Experience with Kubernetes
• Experience working with Linux/Unix and VM environments
• Good understanding of networking and security fundamentals
• Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases
• Experience with Terraform and/or Infrastructure as Code
• Experience with Ansible
• Understanding or hands‑on experience with GitOps
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem‑solving skills
