Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their support services in Leeds . This vital role focuses on ensuring that all students with special educational needs receive the appropriate support and resources to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. You will work closely with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to develop and implement effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and inclusive practices. The SENCO will play a crucial part in fostering an environment where every child's unique needs are understood and met, promoting equity and excellence in education.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and coordinate the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision.
• Liaise with parents and carers to ensure effective communication and collaboration regarding their child's needs and progress.
• Work with teachers to identify students with SEND and to ensure they receive appropriate support and differentiated instruction.
• Manage the process of statutory assessments for EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and coordinate their implementation.
• Maintain accurate records of students with SEND, including assessment data and progress reports.
• Stay abreast of current legislation, best practices, and resources related to SEND, advising staff accordingly.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
• National Award for SEN Coordination or equivalent qualification/experience.
• Significant experience in identifying and supporting students with a range of special educational needs.
• Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
