About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their dedicated support team at a progressive school in Belfast . This crucial role involves orchestrating the provision of high-quality educational support for students with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. You will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to ensure that individual needs are met, fostering an inclusive environment where every student can achieve their academic and personal best. This position requires strong leadership, advocacy skills, and a deep commitment to inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision.
• Coordinate the day-to-day operation of the SEND support system, ensuring all students with identified needs receive appropriate support.
• Liaise effectively with parents/carers, teachers, and external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, health visitors) to ensure a coordinated approach.
• Manage the identification of SEND students, including assessment, monitoring progress, and the review of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Provide guidance and training to teaching and support staff on effective strategies for supporting students with SEND.
• Maintain accurate and confidential records of SEND provision and student progress.

Requirements

• A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., QTS) and relevant experience in special educational needs.
• Completion of, or willingness to undertake, the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (or equivalent).
• Thorough understanding of current SEND legislation and guidance in the UK.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to influence and inspire.
• Experience in working with a diverse range of SEND, including learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, and physical disabilities.
