About the Role
Our client is actively seeking a highly organised and empathetic Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their dedicated team in Sunderland . This crucial role involves overseeing the provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), ensuring they receive the tailored support required to achieve their full potential. You will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the students themselves to implement effective SEND strategies and policies. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of students with diverse learning requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the school's SEND policy and provision in line with legal requirements and best practices.
- Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND support system, including the identification and assessment of students' needs.
- Maintain accurate records of all SEND students, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and progress reports.
- Liaise effectively with parents, carers, and external agencies (e.g., educational psychologists, health services) to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
- Provide guidance and training to teaching and support staff on SEND-related matters and strategies.
- Monitor the effectiveness of SEND provision and report on progress to senior leadership and governing bodies.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised qualification.
- The National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to undertake).
- Significant experience working with students with a range of SEND needs.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance concerning SEND.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to advocate effectively for students with SEND.
