Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their inclusive education initiatives in Belfast . This pivotal role involves overseeing the provision for students with special educational needs, ensuring they receive the support required to thrive academically and personally. You will work closely with teachers, parents, and external specialists to develop and implement effective strategies, foster a culture of inclusion, and advocate for the needs of every child. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to manage a critical support role from anywhere.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and review the school's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy and provision.
• Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of the SEND policy, ensuring effective identification and support for students with additional needs.
• Liaise with parents, external agencies, and other professionals to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students.
• Provide guidance and training to teaching staff on effective strategies for supporting students with diverse learning requirements.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of SEND provision, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCPs.
• Monitor the progress of students with SEND and ensure they are making expected or better progress.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to undertake).
• Significant experience working with students with a range of SEND.
• A thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage a broad range of responsibilities in a remote setting.
