Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision in Leeds, West Yorkshire . In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for ensuring that students with additional needs receive the appropriate support to thrive academically and socially. You will work collaboratively with teachers, parents, external agencies, and the wider school community to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the implementation and day-to-day operation of the school's SEND policy and provision.
• Conduct needs assessments for students with special educational requirements and develop tailored support plans (IEPs).
• Liaise effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure cohesive support strategies.
• Provide guidance, training, and support to teaching staff on effective strategies for supporting students with diverse needs.
• Monitor the progress of students with SEND, reviewing and adjusting support plans as necessary.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a recognized SEN qualification (e.g., National Award for SEN Coordination).
• Significant experience in a teaching role, with a proven track record in managing and supporting students with special educational needs .
• Thorough understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, including children, parents, and external support services.
