Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator

About the Role

Our client is searching for an experienced and empathetic Special Educational Needs (SEN) Coordinator to lead their dedicated support team at a progressive school in Cardiff . You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that students with diverse learning needs receive the highest standard of support and tailored educational programs, fostering an inclusive environment where every student can thrive. This position requires a deep understanding of SEN legislation, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to driving positive outcomes for vulnerable learners within the Welsh capital.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective SEN strategies and policies in line with current legislation and best practice.
• Liaise with teachers, parents, external agencies, and pupils to create and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
• Coordinate the provision of support for students with a wide range of special educational needs, including learning, physical, emotional, and communication difficulties.
• Oversee the work of teaching assistants and support staff, providing guidance and professional development.
• Monitor the progress of SEN students, ensuring they are achieving their potential.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to school-wide efforts to promote inclusivity and accessibility.

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a relevant degree in education or psychology.
• A recognised qualification in Special Educational Needs coordination (e.g., NASENCO).
• Significant experience working with students with SEN in a primary or secondary school setting.
• In-depth knowledge of SEN frameworks, interventions, and assessment tools.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
• A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding children in Cardiff .
